Our good friend Samantha Lockwood has created something exciting, completely unlike any jewelry we’ve seen. We just have to share.

Fleurings are a line of jewelry created by Samantha Lockwood and inspired by her grandmother Betty Schelb. The story goes that when Samantha got a job waiting tables as a teenager, Betty advised her to wear a flower behind her hair to make better tips at her job. At first, Sam was surprised to hear this advice and thought it was foolish, perhaps it was some odd superstitious idea “wear a flower to make tips”, it sounded like “don’t step on a crack or you’ll break your mother’s back”, or like “find a four leaf clover
for good luck”.

However, being a little superstitious, Samantha willingly picked a big Red Hibiscus flower on her walk
to work the next day. She put it behind her ear and stepped through the door at Barney Burgers in Brentwood. From that moment on the rest is history. Everyone had a nice response to the flower and to Samantha that day. Compliments were flowing from her boss, the co-workers and most importantly from the customers “what a nice flower” and “oh you look nice and cheerful today” etc. To her total surprise Samantha counted her tips at the end of the day and they had nearly doubled. Her flower unfortunately had wilted at this point and got stuck in her hair.

This is when she came up with the idea for Fleurings: small earrings and necklaces to hang free from your hair so flowers won’t get stuck, and also doubling as small vessels of water to keep flowers alive and fresh for hours.
