This, along with a few other similar dresses, was purchased from a woman who was a prominent New York lounge singer in the 1950s. She wore this dress on stage, and we can only imagine how stunning the beadowrk appeared when it was hit by light. Miss Elliette, who was a very successful clothing designer in the 1950s-70s, has told us that she owned a company which imported knit dresses from Hong Kong during the 50s, and had a staff of 70 women who hand-sewed the beads. This may be one of those dresses.

It is a full-length, slinky sleeveless gown with a walking slit on the right side, in icy aqua. It is heavy with all the hand beadwork, and your posture will be superb. Unlined, the label reads “Jo-Ro Imports”. It fits up to size 4, perhaps 6, but no more, in very good condition with only a handful of loose threads, which is expected when covered with thousands of beads. $500

Marilyn Monore or Jayne Mansfield would have been sensational in this dress, and so will you.
